Mining and quarrying (PKD section B)
PKD divisions in this section
This section includes:
- mining and quarrying (for example underground, open-cast, by means of boreholes, from the seabed) of minerals occurring naturally as solids (coal and ores), liquids (crude petroleum) or gases (natural gas),
- ancillary activities associated with the preparation of minerals for sale (for example crushing, grinding, cleaning, drying, sorting, desalination, briquetting, ore enrichment and liquefaction of natural gas), on the mine site. This section is divided into divisions, groups, classes and subclasses according to the mineral extracted. Divisions 05 and 06 relate to mining of hard coal, lignite and peat, and to mining of crude petroleum and natural gas; divisions 07 and 08 cover mining of metal ores and other minerals and quarrying. Some technical activities classified in this section, especially those related to mining of crude petroleum and natural gas, may be carried out on contract by specialised business entities engaged in production-service activities, classified in the relevant subclasses of division 09.
This section excludes:
- bottling of waters from natural springs and mineral waters, classified in 11.07.Z,
- reclamation of mining sites, classified in 39.00.Z,
- geophysical, geological and seismic surveys, classified in 71.12.B,
- further processing of extracted minerals, classified in the relevant subclasses of section C,
- use of extracted materials without further processing for construction purposes, classified in the relevant subclasses of section F.
