Construction (PKD section F)

This section includes general and specialised construction works relating to buildings and civil engineering structures. It covers construction works consisting of: repair, extension, reconstruction, enlargement, demolition, assembly of prefabricated buildings or structures on the construction site, as well as permanent or temporary structures.

General construction works include the construction of complete buildings (for example residential, office, retail, as well as other public utility buildings or farm buildings). This section also includes the construction of civil engineering structures (for example motorways, streets, bridges, tunnels, railways, airport runways, ports and other waterworks, irrigation systems, sewerage systems, industrial infrastructure, pipelines and power lines, sports facilities).

Construction work may be carried out on own account or on contract. Part of the work, and sometimes even the whole of the construction works, may be subcontracted. Economic entities that bear full responsibility for the implementation of a construction project and subcontractors performing construction works are classified in this section.

In addition, this section includes building renovation and engineering works.

Maintenance, repair and installation of equipment forming an integral part of buildings (for example escalators or air-conditioning systems) are classified as construction in section F, if these works are carried out on the construction site.

This section includes the construction of complete buildings (relevant subclasses of division 41), complete civil engineering structures (relevant subclasses of division 42) as well as specialised construction works, provided that they constitute part of the construction project (relevant subclasses of division 43).

The rental of construction equipment with operator is classified in this section if construction works are carried out using it.

This section also includes:

  • renovation, rebuilding, reconstruction and modernisation of historical and archaeological sites and buildings.

This section excludes:

  • manufacturing activities not carried out on the construction site, classified in the relevant subclasses of section C,
  • manufacture and supply of wooden or metal building structures and prefabricated building components with minimal site work, classified in the relevant subclasses of divisions 16 and 25,
  • conducting archaeological research, classified in 72.20.Z,
  • carrying out maintenance, restoration and other support activities related to cultural heritage, classified in 91.30.Z.
