Publishing activities (PKD division 58)
This division includes:
- publishing books, brochures, leaflets, dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, maps and charts,
- publishing newspapers, magazines and other periodicals,
- publishing telephone directories and mailing lists and other publishing activities (including software publishing),
- streaming content (for example software and books) by content publishers. Publishing activities include acquiring copyright in publication content (information products) and making that content available to the general public by engaging in (or organising) publication and its distribution in various forms. Publishers may license other persons to distribute their content rights or may publish and distribute content that they create or own. This division includes all possible forms of publishing (in printed, electronic, digital, analogue or any other form) and activities related to self-publishing, excluding film and music publishing.
This division excludes:
- the production of motion pictures, video recordings and other films, music publishing and the production of original sound recordings, the production of master sound recordings, classified in the relevant subclasses of division 59,
- obtaining rights from publishers for broadcasting and distribution of content, classified in the relevant subclasses of division 60,
- computer programming activities, classified in the relevant subclasses of division 62,
- printing, classified in the relevant subclasses of group 18.1,
- the mass reproduction of recorded media, classified in 18.20.Z,
- the distribution of films on various media, classified in the relevant subclasses of division 59.
