Manufacture of computers and peripheral equipment (PKD 26.20.Z)
This subclass includes the manufacture and/or assembly of electronic computers (for example mainframes, desktops, laptops and computer servers) and the manufacture of computer peripheral equipment (for example storage devices, input/output devices such as printers, monitors, keyboards). There are the following types of computers: analogue, digital or hybrid. Digital computers, the most common, perform the following functions: (1) they store application programs or programs and data necessary for the operation of the program; (2) they can be freely programmed according to the user's requirements; (3) they perform arithmetic calculations specified by the user; (4) they execute, without human intervention, an application program that requires the computer to modify its behaviour on the basis of logical decisions taken during processing. Analogue computers can perform simulation of mathematical models; they include at least analogue control and software elements.
This subclass includes:
- manufacture of desktop computers,
- manufacture of laptops,
- manufacture of mainframe computers,
- manufacture of palmtop computers (for example notebook computers),
- manufacture of magnetic disk drives, flash memory modules and other storage devices,
- manufacture of optical disk drives for computers,
- manufacture of printers,
- manufacture of computer monitors,
- manufacture of keyboards,
- manufacture of all kinds of mice, joysticks and trackballs,
- manufacture of dedicated computer terminals,
- manufacture of computer servers,
- manufacture of scanners, including barcode scanners,
- manufacture of smart card readers,
- manufacture of computer projectors (video projectors),
- manufacture of printer toner,
- manufacture of computer terminals, cash dispensers (ATM type), point-of-sale terminals (POS) operating on principles other than mechanical,
- manufacture of multifunction devices performing two or more functions (for example printing, scanning, copying, faxing),
- refilling printer ink cartridges.
This subclass excludes:
- reproduction of recorded information media (computer, sound, image and the like), classified in 18.20.Z,
- manufacture of electronic components and electronic assemblies used in computers and peripheral equipment, classified in the relevant subclasses of group 26.1,
- manufacture of computer modems, classified in 26.12.Z,
- manufacture of interface cards, modules and assemblies, classified in 26.12.Z,
- manufacture of printed circuit boards with passive elements, classified in 26.12.Z,
- manufacture of communication modems and transmission equipment, digital telecommunication switching equipment, communication devices for data transmission (for example bridges, routers and gateways), classified in 26.30.Z,
- manufacture of consumer audio and video equipment (for example CD, DVD, Blu-ray players), classified in 26.40.Z,
- manufacture of monitors and television screens, classified in 26.40.Z,
- manufacture of video game consoles, classified in 26.40.Z,
- manufacture of unrecorded optical and magnetic media for use with computers or other devices, classified in 26.70.Z,
- refilling ink and toner containers by retail sellers, classified in 47.40.Z.
