- coating metals with phosphate or chromate coatings,
- plating, galvanizing, anodising and similar treatment of metals,
- colouring metals,
- coating metals with non-metallic coatings, for example powder coating or coating with plastics, enamelling, varnishing.
This subclass excludes:

- printing directly onto metal, classified in 18.12.Z,
- coating plastics with metal, classified in 22.25.Z,
- plating base metals with silver, gold or platinum, classified in 24.41.Z,
- heat treatment of metals, classified in 25.52.Z,

- painting of metal surfaces of buildings and civil engineering structures, classified in 43.34.Z,
- engraving done while you wait, classified in 95.29.Z.
