- directing and supervising defence-related activities (land, naval and air forces), including for example:
- combat formations of the army, navy and air force,
- engineering, transport, communications, intelligence, materiel supply, personnel and other non-combat formations,
- defence auxiliary formations and reserves,
- military logistics units (equipment supply, construction units and the like),
- activities of military field hospitals,
- directing, operating and supporting civil defence forces,
- activities involving the development of crisis management strategies and the conduct of exercises in this area involving civilian institutions and the population,
- activities related to policy on scientific research and development work in the field of defence and management of funds for these purposes.
This subclass excludes:
- scientific research and development work, classified in the appropriate subclasses of division 72
- provision of military assistance to other countries, classified in 84.21.Z
- activities of military courts, classified in 84.23.Z
- provision of security in the event of internal threats in peacetime and natural disasters, classified in 84.24.Z
- educational activities carried out by military schools, colleges and academies, classified in 85.40.Z
- activities of military hospitals, classified in 86.10.Z.
